Q What kind of computer do I need to be able to use Lomak?
A Lomak will work with any computer which has a USB port.
Q Will Lomak run on an Apple Computer?
A Yes - as long as the computer was manufactured after 1998.
Q Do I need any software to run the Lomak?
A No, the Lomak can be plugged directly into a USB port and used immediately. The computer sees Lomak as a standard keyboard and mouse.
Q Can I transfer my Lomak from one computer to another?
A Yes, because it needs no special software and can be plugged in and out in seconds, it is very quick and simple to transfer Lomak between computers.
Q Will I need a laptop to use the Lomak?
A No, the Lomak can be mounted easily in front of a standard desktop computer.
Q Does the laptop screen need to open up fully to use the Lomak?
A No, but it allows for better mounting and viewing options if it does.
Q For what type of users is the lomak suitable?
A Lomak is designed to assist anyone who has trouble using a standard QWERTY keyboard.
Q Can young children use Lomak?
A Yes. We can provide three "getting started" overlays, which reveal progressively more of the keyboard. The first, with only the alphabet available, is ideal for children who are just starting their education.
Q Is Lomak suitable for people with limited head control e.g.: Cerebral Palsy?
A Yes, very much so, as the “Select/Acknowledge” configuration enables a user to correct errors before committing them to the computer. In addition, the “Notesai” feature, which is available now as an overlay, can be used in cases where problems are still encountered with the standard Lomak.
Q Is there a special Lomak for the visually impaired?
A A large character overlay is available to help those who have visual impairment.
Q Is the Lomak tiring to use?
A No, because only small movements are necessary to operate the Lomak, our users have found it far less tiring than alternative technologies.
Q How different from a standard keyboard is the Lomak?
A Lomak is operated by actuating the keys with a light dot and utilising a Select/Acknowledge system to reduce errors. Apart from the different methods of actuation, a computer will see the Lomak exactly as a standard keyboard and mouse.
Q Are the mouse and keyboard separate?
A No, both mouse and keyboard are integral parts of a Lomak “unit”. The Lomak allows for quick and easy swapping between mouse and keyboard modes, using the light dot.
Q Can I use a Trackball or standard Mouse with the Lomak?
A Yes, when the Lomak is in keyboard mode a standard mouse or trackball can be used alongside. However, it is not advisable to use the Lomak in mouse mode when other mouse units are connected.
Q Can I customize the Lomak to suit my needs?
A Yes, customisation of the sensitivity, mouse speed, LED brightness and sound feedback is possible. A number of other features allow for tuning of the Lomak to suit individual users. See the User Guide for full instructions.
Q Are there sticky keys on the Lomak?
A Yes. The “SHIFT”, “CTRL”, and “ALT” keys latch on when they are actuated and will hold that command until either another key is actuated and confirmed or the key is reset. The “Caps lock” key will stay on until deactivated.
Q How long will the batteries on the remote units last?
A Headset batteries (eye-safe laser pointer) give approximately 8 hours continuous running after a full charge. For the handset this can be extended to approximately 12 hours.
Q Will I need tuition to get started on the Lomak?
A You may need help if you are unfamiliar with computers and standard keyboards, but most users will find the information in the User Guide sufficient to get started.
Q Is there a tutorial for the Lomak?
A Yes, each unit comes with an electronic typing tutorial on CD. You can also access the tutorial online through our support page or by clicking here.
Q Who can help me if I am unfamiliar with computers?
A Lomak is very intuitive, so anyone who can teach you to use a computer can help you to learn with Lomak.
